N Building by Alexander Reeder

http://www.vimeo.com/8468513

N Building is a commercial structure located near Tachikawa station amidst a shopping district. Being a commercial building signs or billboards are typically attached to its facade which we feel undermines the structures’ identity. As a solution we thought to use a QR Code as the facade itself. By reading the QR Code with your mobile device you will be taken to a site which includes up to date shop information. In this manner we envision a cityscape unhindered by ubiquitous signage and also an improvement to the quality and accuracy of the information itself.

Sniff is an interesting interactive interface concept. Sniff is an interactive projection in a storefront window. As the viewer walks by the projection, her movements and gestures are tracked by a computer vision system. A CG dog dynamically responds to these gestures and changes his behavior based on the state of engagement with the viewer. More information about this project can be found on the website.

Really interesting augmented reality glasses concept by Nokia. Nokia is experimenting with new types of interactions involving near-to-eye displays, gaze direction tracking, 3D audio, 3D video, gesture and touch.  A number of different vendors are coming to the table with similar concepts, most of which involve augmenting interfaces over space. After the first wave of glasses has hit the market users can expect interfaces to become even more integrated. More information about this project can be found here.

Digital Rome

Algorithn generates a virtual Rome in 3d from 150,00 Flickr photos. Using nearly half a million Flickr photos of Rome, Venice, and the Croatian coastal city of Dubrovnik, a team of computer scientists at the University of Washington’s Graphics and Imaging Laboratory assembled digital models of the three cities in 3-D. Their work builds on the algorithms used in Microsoft’s Photosynth, which were invented at the same lab, but it’s like Photosynth on steroids.

Interesting new iPhone application lets users plan their spaces in real-time. The new application makes it possible to integrate 3D-furniture within a picture of your home on the iPhone. Combining the Augmented Reality software from metaio and the iPhone’s features, it is made possible to place virtual furniture models within a picture. After having added the furniture models, you can move, scale and rotate them. Shake the iPhone to shuffle the selected furniture pieces within the picture. Take a screenshot of your created look and share it with friends and family.
